CASE Study...Hi Friend

Hello CASE Study friends! Welcome to another installment of our challenge...and inspiration courtesy of Teri Anderson! Today's card is super fun, super cute...however, I put my own spin on it, featuring some neutrals speckled with black accents...yum!

I started following Teri's design but wandered off onto my own path. Sometimes inspiration is just a jumping board, yes? I purchased this flower when I was away last weekend and couldn't wait to add it to a card. To dress it up a bit more, I layered a Whimsey Circle underneath it and added some tulle accents. There is also a strip of coordinating crochet trim/velvet center ribbon peeking out. I also purchased some Copper and Onyx Pearl Liquid Pearls and had to use them here as well. Paper is from one of my favorite collections, Vintage Timeless by Kaisercraft. Sentiment is courtesy of Verve's Lean on Me set and is stamped and matted on a Banner Bundle die set.

Here's Teri's sweet inspiration card:

This Makes Me Happy

Morning, all! Last week, Verve released a whole bunch of new products...stamps, dies and luscious seam binding! I had made a bunch of cards for the release and I found this one tucked away on my shelf...so I thought I would show it today:

This design really ended up being so simple (for me, anyway). I ran the Havrerutor - bs paper through my Big Kick sandwiched in an inked-up embossing folder to get that mottled design. I simply stitched a panel of Lejas cafe paper to that base and added the sentiment piece...which consist of a Fancy Tags Three and an oval Nestability. The inside is sponged and perimeter dotted with Lavender Lace Liquid Pearls. The sentiment is from Verve recently released Remember This set. Details include a strip of antique lace and pearls, a seam binding bow, tulle accents a paper flower and a decorative stick pin. Oh, and I see the tiniest hemp bow peeking out, too. :)

Thanks for sharing a part of your day with me!

Stamps: Remember This (Verve Stamps)

Love Fest on Splitcoast Stampers

What a wonderful idea for SCS to celebrate their member companies with a Love Fest! I'm honored to be participating on behalf of Verve Stamps and we've got a fun challenge for you...to color your world with Verve's signature colors plus a splash of either pink or yellow, depending on just how splashy you want to get! We're not picky about the shades whether you like screaming yellow or the palest of pinks, just color it up!

TWO lucky winners will be drawn from the entries to this challenge! Each winner will receive a $25 voucher to spend at Verve Stamps.

My sample features some new Verve just released, the 'thanks' sentiment is from Surely Goodness and the die shape it's stamped on...as well as the die that the smaller sentiment is stamped on...both are from Verve's Flag It Die set. The sentiment in the middle of the card is an older stamp set, it's called All About You. There is also a glimpse of Verve's Pennant Trim die peeking out the bottom.

Challenge Recap: Create a little somethin' somethin' with ONE of the following color combos...

aqua + brown + pink

---OR---
aqua + brown + yellow

All Love Fest Challenge Entries must be uploaded to your member gallery, with the specific challenge keyword, no later than February 28th, 2013 at 12:00 Noon Central Time to be eligible for our fabulous prizes!

Make sure to use the keyword LOVEFEST2013J so that we may find your project easily and leave a little love! Good luck and have some fun!

Zva Creative February Blog Hop

Happy Monday to you! Zva Creative and our talented Design Team welcome you to our February blog hop! We are very excited about this month's hop and are eager to share our new work with you!

Today's Blog Hop begins at Zva Creative's blogBe sure head on over to check it out! Since many of us live in different time zones around the world, you will find a complete list of all the participating blogs there (in case there is a glitch along the way).

As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  If you like what you see along the hop you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.

Each month a designer is assigned a color story to follow. I was given Lavender/Grape and couldn't have been more happy because I knew that Zva's beautiful purple flourishes/flowers would look amazing on Maja Design's Ska vi ta en fika papers. The design of this card evolved as I was putting it together and I'm really happy with the result. I used 3 different Verve sentiments on this card with two fold out panels.
This photo is with all the panels folded over. I added a Zva Creative paper flower and stamped 'this makes me happy' on a Banner Bundle die. That panel is only connected to the one underneath by a panel all the way to the right. (The brown strip is scored and folds over to the back.):

The Banner die then lifts up to reveal a second sentiment 'this wonderful life' underneath. This one is also attached to a brown strip of paper that is scored, folded and adhered to the back of the card:

Then when you lift up the second banner panel, the words 'happy anniversary' are revealed. I thought these words all went together beautifully for a nice Anniversary card. 'Course my husband will have to overlook all the girly-ness, as I'm not inclined to make a masculine card for him. :)

Now that the card is 'opened up' you can see the pretty Zva Creative flourish I attached to the sentiment. Initially I had glued a flower to the 'anniversary' tag, but then quickly realized that the other panels wouldn't lay flat if there was a chunky flower there.

Here are the Zva Creative products I used:
CRB-04CB-116 (Imperial - Lavender Crystal)
CRS-05CA-108 (Flourish IV Lavender Crystal & Pearl)
FLBK-03CB-110 (Mini-rose (144 stems) 1/2" or 12mm - Lavender)

If you would like to play along with our design team, just follow along the blog path.  I am linking to one of the Zva designers and that designer is linking to the next and so on. Be prepared to be inspired along the way!
The Blog Hop starts today, February 25th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, February 26th.
***Prizes***
Hidden on FIVE of the designer's blogs is a Zva Creative prize package! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over. All you need to do is leave a comment on this Blog Hop post... you do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. However, the more times you comment along the blog hop path, the more chances you will have to win.

The 5 winners will be announced on Wednesday, February 27th on Zva Creative's blogWe will do our best to notify each winner, but it's best if you can pop in to Zva's blog on Wednesday to see if you are a winner!

We also thought it would be more fun to add even more chances to win our blog hop prize!  To increase your chances of winning:

Vintage Card Cafe Challenge...In Celebration of Handiwork

Hello and happy Sunday! There's a new challenge up at the Vintage Card Cafe this week....we are asked to add a hand made adornment to our cards. In the past I've made these vintage book page flowers and I just love the look...and it just so happens that they are shabby and what this challenge is all about! So I broke out some Christmas papers....though you'd never know they were Christmas papers by the looks of my card! Here, take a look:

The papers are from Maja Design's Vintage Winter and It's Christmas Time collections. All edges are distressed and sponged, some sewed down. The flowers were made from Lord Tennyson's book of poems dating back to the 1800's. The paper is so flimsy, it about falls apart in your hand. I added some Star Dust Stickles to the leaf tips and a pearl in the centers. Behind them is a partial doily and some pearl stamens from the wedding dept in Michael's. The sentiment is from two different Verve sets, both newly release..."Hello" is from Remember This and "beautiful" is from the So Fluttery set. Both of these sets released yesterday. I stamped them onto a strip punched out with Martha Stewart's Doily Lace border punch and I curled up the edges just a bit after swabbing them with a bit of distress ink. A little strip of pearls finishes the look.

I hope you'll have the chance to play along with us!
Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

Keep Shining Little Star

Happy Saturday friends! I'm away this weekend on a fun, scrapbooking (read: do-nothing) excursion called Scrap Away Get Away with some girlfriends...no work, no house, no cooking, no cleaning...just sitting around for 72 hours and crafting! And I can guarantee I'll walk away with nothing done! It's all good...it's mental health therapy. :)
Today Verve released 5 new stamp sets, 3 Plain Janes, 5 new dies and 1 new Seam binding collection. I thought I would combine a few of those items today for a fun, masculine card:

I started with Maja Design's Life by the Sea collection. I love these papers for any type of masculine card. I distressed all the panels and the smallest two are sewn. The sentiment panel is Verve's Curvy Bookplate die and I sponged the edges with Pumice Stone distress ink after stamping the sentiment from Verve's new Shining Star set. The stars are also a new die set released by Verve, this one is called Starry die (appropriately enough). The three border strips are all the same die, Scalloped Trim Trio (Verve); I just staggered the shapes and mixed up the colors. The seam binding is from Verve's Signature Seam binding collection...I crinkled it up before tying the bow and then added a silver cord bow adorned button. The stars are outlined with Platinum Stickles for a little sparkle. 'Keep Shining' is from the same set, I just added a trio of silver pearls to the base of the panel for a little appeal.

Before I go, I just wanted to show you quickly a new light box set up that my husband made for me. I was having trouble before with an overhead light, my photos always seemed too dark, so he rigged up some lights that are velcroed to the bottom of my shelving unit to provide just a bit more light. I'm really happy with the results! (The window sill is still my favorite, though :)

Well, thanks so much for stopping by today, I'll be back tomorrow with a Vintage Card Cafe Challenge sample. Have a wonderful day!

Fun with New Verve...A Collection

Hello blog friends! Have you enjoyed all the new Verve that was previewed over the last few days? Today I'm sharing a project that I've been working on a bit here and there over the past week, featuring just about all of the new sets that Verve is releasing today. Have you ever heard of the term 'happy accident'? While it's true that there really are no 'accidents' (everything happens for a reason whether you realize it at the time or not), I really was not planning to stop at Staples on my way home from work last week, but my daughter needed a tri-fold presentation board for her Science Fair project. Well, right next door happens to be Michael's, so I figured I would just wander in and see if anything caught my eye. Yes, in fact, my eye was caught many a time, as I picked up these fabulous papers from My Mind's Eye, perfectly coordinating flowers (from the $1 bin) and a chipboard album (also from said bin). The stars over my craft room came together so that I could make this:

The first page is always the hardest. I mounted Verve's Surely Goodness stamp onto a medallion, sponged the edges and dotted the perimeter with liquid pearls. I added two strips of lace, one authentic and the other with a strip of pink velvet. The flowers (both peach and white/yellow) were a score(!) at Michael's in the $1 bin. Then there's some Zva Creative flourishes sprawled about. I added some Star Dust Stickles to the flowers for a bit of sparkle. I sewed the edges with my sewing machine and when you're making a two sided book...the seam shows on the back. What's the fix, you ask?
A border of pearls...

They beautifully cover up the stitch marks. This was a heart that I made for a card using a heart shaped burlap piece with lace hot-glued around it. It ended up being way too big for a card, but perfect for a
6" X 6" Chipboard book. I placed a banner stamped with 'this wonderful life' across the bottom and attached a velvet flower and Alphabet Twill ribbon. And of course, some lovely pink pearls...

I didn't want to sew again, yet in retrospect I should have because I layered the back with pearls again. The fabric frame is from K & Co. that I've had gathering dust for years. I added a cool pre-printed sentiment a la Coco Chanel that reads "In order to be irreplaceable one mush always be different". The floral accent consists of a yellow felt flower, Truly Madly Deeply Seam binding from Verve and some pearly leaves. I stamped 'love this' from Verve's Remember This set.

Here's the back...with more pearls. I added a doily and MORE pearls, pink ones, to connectors in the doily. I also added a ring of Buttercup yellow liquid pearls as well. The sentiment is Verve's You Make Me Smile Plain Jane and that's stamped and sponged on a Rectangle die. The floral arrangement consists of paper flowers, tulle accents, a hemp bow and a pink twine bow. And, oh yeah, another pink pearl.

This last page came together very quickly. I had these felt flowers from the $! bin at Michael's...they came 4 to a package. I also have these heart doilies that are just too big for a card...so voila! They have come together! The sentiment from Verve's So Fluttery set is stamped on a kraft envelope and I added lots of pearls. The bow is from Verve's Truly Madly Deeply Seam binding collection and I crinkled it up a bit before making the bow and adding the button. And what is inside the envelope you may ask?
Nothing really....

Just a cute little die cut from K & Co.'s Valentine collection and Verve's Beautiful Plain Jane stamped underneath the flap.

Here's the whole book.

New Verve...Anniversary Wishes

Hello and welcome to Day 3 of Verve's pre-release peeks! Today the Divas are previewing the Surely Goodness set and another Plain Jane called 'Happy Anniversary'. Today's card is based on the latter and uses all kinds of circle goodness paired with Maja Design papers:

From the middle, the sentiment is stamped on a Nestie Oval, followed by a Maja Design paper panel made with the Rosette die, then a mat of Night of Navy, on top of a homemade medallion made from a Cornice punch by Martha Stewart. The final layer is a die cut from Heartfelt Creations that fit just perfectly. The first blue matting has an outline of Silver Stickles and the Oval sentiment has a dotted perimeter of Silver Liquid pearls.

CASE Study...Hello Sunshine

Hi and welcome to this week's CASE Study with our current muse, Teri Anderson! Teri's style is fun, whimsical and for the most part CAS, pretty much the complete opposite of my tendencies. I had fun stepping out of my comfort suit to draw inspiration from her designs. This week's card had me struggling a bit, but in the dead of night with a picture of her card displayed in front of me, I came up with this creation:

I wanted to keep the horizontal lines, the fun flowers and the bright colors. However, I changed my paper strips completely horizontal, used patterned paper and cut my design down to one flower. The flower ended up being bigger than I had anticipated when I set out to make it, so there was really only room for one. To make that flower, I cut (7) 1" inch strips and (7) 1 & 1/2" strips, folded them over, glued them into loops and then stacked them in a circular fashion. I layered both sizes and then added a pre-made paper flower ($1 bin!) in the center. The sentiment is from Verve's Doodled Occasions set. Each patterned paper strip is raised up and layered onto a length of Doily Lace border punched paper.

Here's Teri's inspiration card:

New Verve...So Fluttery & Beautiful

Welcome to the second day of our February 2013 Spotlight Hops!  I'm back again today with a couple of cards previewing upcoming sets for release this Saturday from Verve!   Today we're shining our Verve spotlights on the new stamps... So Fluttery, Shining Star & Beautiful Plain Jane .When I received these stamps in the mail, Julee had included some beautiful, colorful seam binding, and while my cards tend to be on the neutral/pale side, I couldn't resist putting this vibrant card together, using a new Plain Jane...Beautiful:

This seam binding collection is called Spring Fling. The colors matched perfectly with this new paper pad I bought, Zephyr by Prima. All edges are distressed and I added Verve's Pennant Trim die for a little interest. There are crystals and pearls from Zva Creative and a cute little glass button of unknown origin :)

This card is using another set being previewed today, this one is called So Fluttery. Full of sweet butterflies and sweeter sentiments...and the butterflies fit Verve's previously released Flutterby die, which I used here. The sentiments are stamped on another Verve die set, the Tiny Sweet Scallop Tag dies.

New Verve...A Scrapbook Layout

Welcome to the first day of our February 2013 Spotlight Hops!   Each of the release team Divas below (including 4 brand new talented designers) has posted her first look at new stamps today. As you hop through the list below, you just might see some super sneaky peeks of new coordinating dies, so keep your eyes peeled! Everything you see previewed along today's hop will be available in Verve's online store on Friday, February 22.
Today we're shining our Verve spotlights on the new stamps Remember ThisCalendar Countdown and Smile Plain Jane. So, since Verve is introducing some new stamps, dies and ribbons this week,  I thought I would dabble in something that I haven't done for a very long time...make a scrapbook layout. I have lots of pages that I made quite a few years ago...and I currently like making layouts because everything I saved that was too big for a card, I can use now! However, 12" X 12" is a very intimidating size, when you are used to only having to fill up 4 1/4" X 5 1/2". So here's a go at a layout I made, using the most adorable little baby's picture; he also happens to be my neighbor AND has two of the nicest parents that I know!

photo courtesy of  ::dana elyse:: photography

It was so hard for me to not put flowers on this page, but I did resist....I don't have many 'boy' items, so pearls, ribbons, wooden hearts and buttons had to suffice. And of course, I had to add some gorgeous Zva Creative swirls that I usually have to cut to make fit on a card...
I used Verve's new Calender Countdown and Remember This sets. I paired them with an older set, Brighter Days (the arrows). I used the Arrow die to cut out the arrow stamps and Verve's Pennant Trim die to add interest to the horizontal striped strip and under the picture. I also added a Mini Bookplate die set where I stamped 'this makes me happy'. Verve also has a new die set called Banner Bundle die set which I used to make the die cut where 'this precious moment' is stamped.

Good Things Are Going To Happen

Good Morning! This past Thursday it was my turn to post over at the Maja Design Blog...this is a card I made with the 'Life in the Country' collection. I used this week's Mojo Monday as my design and some lovely Verve stamps:

I used Summer breeze, Sowing Seeds (bs), In the Hammock (bs) and Close to the Lake (bs) from Life in the Country. I distressed all the edges and added a bit of stitching to the inner panels. The flower accent consists of a crocheted flower, a Baker’s Twine bow, paper flowers and a Zva Creative crystal flourish. The sentiment is from Verve’s Brighter Days set.

Thanks for visiting and be sure to stop back Tuesday as we're previewing some new Verve to be released next Saturday!
