Paper Sweeties May Release Sneak Peek...Sending Springtime

Welcome to the first day of the Paper Sweeties' May release! Today I'm showcasing a darling little set called 'Sending Springtime'...full of cheery sentiments and birdy related stamps. I made my own bird's nest on this one using just a few simple ingredients I had in my craft room...and I'm really happy with the way it turned out! Take a look:

Here are the simple steps to making this cute nest:

You'll need a strip of burlap, tacky glue, a chipboard or cardboard circle and pearls:

Gently pull the long threads from the burlap. You'll be left with varying lengths of burlap threads:

Add a ring of glue on the circle and start to layer on the burlap threads:

Add another layer of glue and another layer of burlap:

When it's mounded high enough, let dry:
(A bird's nest is not perfect, and you don't want your's to look perfect, either ;)

Lastly, add your pearl 'eggs' after the glue dries:

 Voila!

Then look at your hands...and have fun peeling the glue off! :)

Easy or what?

Make sure to check out the other Sweeties' design work here, at the Paper Sweeties' blog.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

  2. Superb card as always, love the darker colours you've incorporated. And the tutorial is excellent, have saved it to my computer so I can try it out. I've seen birds nest embellishments to buy but your idea is far better and much more cost effective too. Gonna steal it haha. And thank you for your advice on Dies :) I shall look at them with new eyes to see which parts I can use. Have a great week. Pxx

  5. Thank you so much, Andrea! I see variations of these birds nests as completed embellies all the time and just can't bring myself to buy them every time a newer, cuter one comes out. Leave it to your Yankee ingenuity to show me a better way! TFS.

  9. LOL...talk about great minds think alike Andrea! I sent off a layout a few weeks ago to a UK magazine where I made a nest using burlap, twine and stick-on pearls! Looks almost the same (except I just cut a circle design from my burlap and cut a slit in it to create a cup shape! You might find this a little less messy :) ...super cute card!! xo
