Vintage Card Cafe Challenge...Clowning Around

Ok, so when Oksana of the Vintage Card Cafe challenge emailed me to give this week's assignment, I got a little scared. Clowns? Clowns are supposed to be happy, evoke laughter and generally entertain. Well, have you ever googled "vintage clowns"? I can now understand why some people have a phobia of them! Fortunately one of the images that came up was of a K & Company die-cut from a Valentine's themed package. I knew I had seen it before and, sure enough, I found it in a drawer full of hearts and Valentine's day accents. Here's the card I made based on this week's challenge:

I followed this week's Mojo Monday sketch, flipped 90ยบ, using Kaisercraft's Vintage Timeless papers. I distressed all the edges, stitched the trio of rectangular panels onto the base and sponged the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink. The clown image ended up being very close in color to the background, so I added a sparkly bronze Floral Oval behind it. I also added some Bisque Liquid pearls to it's perimeter. I then added the seam binding (from Verve's Truly Madly Deeply collection) and tied that off into a bow, after crinkling it a bit. To that I added a hemp adorned heart button and two stick pins. I also added a Tilth Floral die cut behind the clown and a paper heart from Kaisercraft's 'These Days' die cuts. The last few accents were the Vintage corner dies, the trio of descending hearts and the label with the sentiment from Verve's Happy Phrases stamped on it.

The sketch is from Mojo Monday:

And here's the stamp set I used:

  3. Clowns are scary. First time I saw a movie with a clown was Stephen King's It. Your clown doesn't scare me, though. :) Love the take on the sketch.
