Viva La Verve...Sunshine and Laughter

Happy Friday and beginning of the holiday weekend! I'm so excited that I have the next (after today) 4 days off, 3 of them with my hubby! Of course, he'll be in the garage tinkering and I'll be here in my craft room tinkering, but at least we'll both be home. And now to start off a new month of Viva La Verve sketches, Amber has come up with a challenge for us, and here's my take on it:

I wanted to look beyond the obvious with her sketch, namely those two circles protruding from the sentiment panel. I usually don't have luck with using patterned paper to make circles, so I dug deep into the recesses of my brain and came up with this idea (on my way to work yesterday, no less!). I made a medallion behind the  Rounded Scallop Frame die, and attached that to a doily. The verse is from Verve's latest release, this set is called Brighter Days. I added liquid pearls to the sentiment panel to add a little glitz. Then I tucked in 3 tulle accents into each side and added  two little Zva Creative paper flowers at the entry points. Then I had this big black abyss of a border and racked my brain deciding how to fill up the open space. Then I remembered this card here, where I inverted the Martha Stewart Layered Arches punch to make a decorative frame. I'd say that filled up the space rather nicely!

Here is Amber's design:

Here's the story on the Viva La Verve challenge:

Every Friday, a Diva will post a sketch for your enjoyment. Your cards, using the sketches, must be uploaded to Splitcoast Stamper'sViva La Verve forum by the last Thursday of the month. The winner will be announced on the next day and will win a $100 gift certificate to VERVE! How awesome is that?! Just a reminder, Verve stamps are NOT required but we love to see you use them. Feel free to flip, rotate, resize, or otherwise alter the sketch as long as we can tell you USED the sketch! This month's keyword with beVLVSep2012 for the whole month of September.

Have a great day and thanks for stopping by!

CASE Study...Turning On Ourselves

Hi and welcome to our final week of celebration at CASE Study challenges! For our last challenge, Chupa has asked us to CASE ourselves! I chose a Mojo Monday card that I made quite a few months ago, and I chose it by putting one of my hands over my eyes and using the other hand to pick a card from the pile that I have on my bookcase. Here's the new version, followed by the old version, followed by the 'pick' shelf:

I decided to go 'goth' on this card, well, about as goth as I can get. I CASEd the design, the flourishes, flowers, bows, la la la...about everything from my original card, however, I did change the theme, colors and shapes. I used the very last strip I own of  1" Black Sheer Tinsel Edge ribbon (that I have been hoarding) to make the 'ghost' bow at the bottom. The banner was made with Verve's Ribbon Banner die and to mat it, I cut 1/8" off  the panel size and was able to have the sides match up perfectly. The doily started out as white, but then I doused it with my Versafine pad...which in retrospect I wouldn't advise as it took forever to dry, even with the heat gun.

So here's my shabby, feminine original:

This the shelf that I blindly chose from:

Blog Hoppin' With Nikki Sivils' Crew

Hi there! Today the gals from the Ribbon Carousel are teaming up with the design team from Nikki Sivils' Scrapbooking to show you some sweet, fun papers adorned with some awesome ribbons! I received the cutest package of papers called 'Exit Here' but since I don't scrapbook, I've fashioned these paper into a whimsical, out-of-character for me card. And there's NO stamping and NO ink! Imagine that! Anyway, here's my creation:

Sometimes it's hard to use scrapbook papers to make a card, as the sheets come in 12" X 12" sizes and to make the designs stand out more, they tend to be larger. That doesn't necessarily work with a canvas that's only 4" X 5". So what I do is pick out papers that have a small repeat on them. This kit contained a wood grain paper (background), some cutesy flower imprints and a striped panel.  I cut and shabbed all the edges up, then adhered them to my card base. It also contained a whole page of die-cuts. I arranged a few of them at the top and bottom of my card. I also added some banners made from fabulous 3/4" V Striped Twill, specifically, 3/4" Yellow V Striped Twill and 3/4" Turquoise V Striped Twill. I also included a little swath of 1/2" Antique Ruler Twill Ribbon and a sweet little bow of Cherry flavored Divine Twine (just kidding...it's not flavored...or I would've eaten the whole spool by now ;)

The Ribbon Carousel will be giving away a $25 gift certificate to the Ribbon Carousel Store and Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker will be giving away a scrap booking kit (winner's choice!)  Enjoy the hop and be sure to leave some blog love along your way to be eligible for the prizes!  Winners will be announced Saturday night at 8:00 PM EST.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Mojo Monday...Brighter Days

Hi....popping in quickly with my Mojo Monday card for this week. I'm feeling the white lately...so I figured I'd just go with it:

The sentiment is from Verve's latest release and this one is called Brighter Days....which are not here in New Jersey as we're getting a bunch of rain...hence the darker photo. I also used some delightful 1" White Grosgrain/Satin Edge ribbon over top of a length of  1.5" White Net ribbon and 7/8" White Crochet ribbon as the banners that trail down from the top. I used Verve's Ribbon Banner die adorned with liquid pearls for the horizontal banner. The floral arrangement consists of flowers off a pick, tulle/pearl accents and a Jolee's ribbon sticker. The background paper was made with a scoring board in 1/8" double increments with a skip of 1/4". I dotted the cross pattern with liquid pearls. The outside perimeter is also scored.

Here's a close-up of the sentiment panel:

And Mojo's sketch:

I'm off to take my daughter for a haircut and straightening. Poor thing, it's raining here and as soon as we walk out of the salon her hair will start to curl. Even though it's a high of 88° here, she says she's bringing a hooded sweatshirt to protect her hair. (Been there, done that!)
Thanks for visiting!

Ribbon Carousel...School Days

Hi and welcome to this week's Ribbon Carousel challenge! Wendy is our hostess today and she has asked us to make a project with a school theme! My kids go back to school much later than others, they don't start until September 6th. But that also means that they get out of school later in June as well, a fact that right now doesn't bother them, but when June rolls around, I believe we will have a change of heart. I don't own many school related stamps, however, Paper Sweeties has the most adorable stamp sets and they also have these cute alphabet stamps in both upper and lower case, so I made a card using them:

I started this card off by folding the black base and then painting a faux stitch around the perimeter with a Sharpie Fine Point White Paint pen from the Ribbon Carousel...man, that thing is juicy! I've used Stampin' Up!'s white gel pen in the past and have had no luck with them. I would have to shake it after every stitch and I finally gave up and trashed it. Anyway, I then matted the red & kraft card stock after watermarking the kraft with a 'School Days' sentiment from Paper Sweeties So Proud Of You set. I wrapped some delightful Cherry Divine Twine around those layers and added a corduroy button and a cute little apple. The elongated focal panel was trimmed with both a Pinking Hearts border punch (kraft panel) and a Dotted Scallop punch (black panel). I stamped a stack of books, also from the So Proud Of You set, and colored in the apples. The banner was made with Verve's Pennant Trim die and I stamped 'School Days' with Paper Sweeties' Upper and Lower Alphas. Lastly I added the buttons tied off with Natural Jute/Twine to the top right corner.
I'm also trying out a light box that a purchased a couple of months ago and never used...we had thunderstorms and rain all day and the sill was not conducive to good picture taking. I'm still on the fence about the light box, but I suppose under pressure it will work. :)

Your creation can be anything from cards, quilts, sewn items, paper crafts, paintings! *** Be sure to have ribbon, bakers twine, jute twine, lace, thread (basically anything that comes on a spool). ***

We'd love for you to join us this week! Here are the details:
  • Make your NEW creation following the ribbon carousel challenge of the week. Any submissions made prior to the challenge date will be deleted. Be sure to include some type of ribbon, twine, hemp, lace....basically, anything that comes on a spool.
  • Load your creation up onto your blog or a public viewing forum like Splitcoast Stampers, (use the keyword RCC68) with a direct link back to THIS post. Including the challenge graphic isn't a requirement, but sure is appreciated! (A participant of our very first challenge didn't link back or mention our challenge and couldn't be named Top Spool, so don't let that happen to you!)
  • Link up your creation using the Inlinkz button at the bottom of this post. Your image may take a little while to pop up, but don't worry, it will appear shortly.
  • Come back the Friday after the challenge ends to see if YOU are a Top Spool!

Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you have a great day!

Zva Creative August DT Blog Hop

Zva Creative and our talented Design Team welcome you to join us for our August Blog Hop! We are happy to have you join us and hope you enjoy all that we have to share with you along the way!
The Blog Hop begins at Zva Creative's blogBe sure head on over to check it out! Leave a comment there for a chance to win an extra prize package just for visiting the blog and telling us that you stopped by! You will also find a complete list of all the participating blogs there (in case there is a glitch along the way).
As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  We want to make sure that they shine bright for you, so each designer was will be sharing a creation using a specific color or color combination on their blog hop project.  If you like what you see you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.
This month the Design Team got to pick their own colors, so I thought I would post a couple of projects using clear rhinestones. This is a CAS card (out of character, for me) but I wanted to use this style so that Zva's rhinestone flourishes would really shine (both figuratively and literally):

Zva Creative products used:
CR-02CA-105 (Symmetrical Flourishes (E) - Clear)
CRW-03CA-107 (Basic Lines Crystal - Clear (0.3 cm & 0.5 cm)

This one here is using some Zva Creative Iron On Rhinestone Flourishes. This project was so easy, I took a sunglass case and laid out my design on the front. I ironed on the rhinestone flourish (pretty much the only ironing I do ;) and added the fabric flower. Easy peasy!

Zva Creative products used:
IN-05CA-106 (Iron-on design - Clear Rhinestone)
 2.5" Dual Flowers White/Pink

If you would like to play along with our design team, just follow along the blog path.  I am linking to one of the Zva designers and that designer is linking to the next and so on. Be prepared to be inspired along the way!
Hidden on FIVE of the designer's blogs is a Zva Creative prize package! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over, so it's important to leave a comment on as many blogs as you can along the way.
The Blog Hop starts today, August 27th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, August 28th.
The 5 winners will be announced on Wednesday, August 29th on Zva Creative's blogWe will do our best to notify each winner, but it's best if you can pop in to Zva's blog on Wednesday.
All you need to do is leave a comment on this Blog Hop post... you do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. However, the more times you comment along the blog hop path, the more chances you will have to win.
We also thought it would be more fun to add even more chances to win our blog hop prize!  To increase your chances of winning:
* Comment to let us know that you posted on your Facebook page about our hop (link to any of the blog hop posts)
* Comment to let us know that you "tweeted" about our hop (link to any of the blog hop posts)
* Comment to let us know that you asked your local store to carry Zva creative products.  If they already do, that's fantastic, maybe you can suggest other products that they don't carry.
*Hop over to Zva's blog and leave a comment there to tell us that you made it there!
The blog hop begins here at Zva Creative's blog. Your next stop is Jolanda Meurs.
Enjoy!

Paper Sweeties...So Proud of You

Just popping in with another card made with some Paper Sweeties stamps. I thought this card would be appropriate for my daughter, who is about to enter Middle School and is pretty nervous about the whole experience:

I used this method here, to get those special sizes with the Martha Stewart punch. I colored Emma's skin, hair and shoes with Copics and paper pieced her outfit, using the So Proud Of You stamp set. I stitched the perimeters with my sewing machine and added a floral cluster consisting of a Kaisercraft flower and other assorted flowers cut off of a pick, then glued them to the RubyTone Vintage Seam binding and Jute/Twine bow. All the border cut edges were sponged with Walnut Stain distress ink and the inner perimeter of Emma's panel is lightly sponged with Pumice Stone distress ink, to soften the edges a bit.

I'll be back in a week or so with some sneak peeks of next month's release!
Thanks for visiting and have a great day~

Good Things Are Going To Happen

Happy Saturday! I'm at work right now, but I have a card that I made last week and didn't get a chance to post, so I figured I'd do that now. The last two weeks have been just full of new stampy goodness from Verve, here's a card that I made using the Brighter Days set:

I was attempting to make a decorative frame for this beautiful sentiment so I die cut a Spellbinders Scalloped Oval panel, sponged the edges with Walnut Stain distress ink and then breaded it with glitter. The middle was popped out using a regular oval die cut and I added dimensionals around the underside to give that recessed look. On the inside perimeter of the frame I added a thin strip of Platinum Stickles for a little outline. I glued some clear rhinestones around the perimeter and layered that whole panel onto a Spellbinder's Floral Oval die cut. I added a big, chunky 1.5" Black Silky Crushed Ribbon bow and lastly, arranged this panel onto my card base which has a petite Pinking Hearts punched border.

I'd like to take a minute to thank everyone who came to visit my blog over the last week and a half...I know at times I was on post overload...but I sure do appreciate all your comments and encouragement. It means a lot to me....thank you!

New Verve...Happiness Is Being With You

Well, it's our last day of Verve's Spotlight Hops...I sure hope you've enjoyed the inspiration that the Divas have brought over the last 9 days...I can say that this has shaped up to be quite a release! A 5 year anniversary is definitely an occasion to celebrate, though! Today's hop is focusing on the last set to be peeked, Treasured Words. I decided to make a tag for my final project:

I started with a page from Creative Imagination's Antique Cream collection. I corner rounded all the edges and then attached one of those fabulous doilies that I acquired from Perkin's Pancake House. I had this half-made medallion sitting in my reject pile...it was all bent up from being tossed around in a bin, so I added to the distressing by sponging the edges with Antique Linen Distress ink. I added my sentiment from Treasured Words onto a Iron Works Motifs Spellbinders die cut that I sponged, outlined and pearl-dotted. There are an array of Zva Creative pearls and pearl flourishes coming out from the flower arrangement. There are two bows with ribbon from the Ribbon Carousel...the top bow is made with 3/4" Champagne V Striped Twill and the bottom one is 1/2" Alphabet Twill Ribbon and that one is peeking out from underneath the pink flowers.

A CASE of CASEing

So in addition to bringing you more new Verve today, CASE Study challenges is still celebrating their second anniversary with a month-long line-up of fun! This week, each CASE Study design team member is going to choose a CASE Study player to CASE. I'm continually inspired each week by our participants and how similarly or differently they interpret the very same card that we're all using. I've been a fan of this player for a long time, she comes up with the most beautiful, bold color combinations and every design I see of her's works to a 'T". Here's my CASE of this card by Vickie Zimmer:

I loved the monochromatic theme of Vickie's card and the pure elegance in every detail. Since I didn't have any type of the background she used, I decided to grab a couple of embossing folders and experimented mixing them up to see what would blend. The bottom stamped panel is from an older Verve set, actually the first one that I spotlighted as a new Diva, Sweet Treats. That stamp coordinates with the also previously released Classy Label die. This new release contains a new die set, Mini Classy Label die which works marvelously with it's bigger cousin. The new Mini Classy Label dies also come as a pair, so there is a matting die and a focal die...yeah! I used both of them on my card and the sentiment from the new Borderline set.

New Verve...Surf's Up!

A slight departure from the norm around here, today the Verve Divas are spotlighting a new set of stamps to be released this Friday and I thought that I would go a totally different route in my style for this card. Take a look and then check the blog header to make sure that you're in the right place :)

In addition to this new fun, whimsical set, Learn To Sail, Verve is also releasing a new die, the Flourished Trim die. I decided to use it to make sand and waves. The surf boards were colored with Copics and adhered to the card base. I stamped the sentiment at the top, then stamped the sun in the opposite corner and colored that with Copics as well.

There are lots of Divas participating in the hop today, check them out here:

New Verve...Stronger Love

Welcome to our Anni-VERVE-sary Spotlight Hops!  As many of you know, Verve is celebrating its 5th anniversary this month and the party is just getting started! Come join us over the next 3 days as we showcase the 23 new stamps and dies releasing from Verve! We'll be counting down the minutes and revealing all the new sets in our forum from 9-11pm Eastern on Friday, August 24, so make plans now to join us for our release party! Today's focus is on a set called Stronger Love, Scroll Plain Jane along with it's coordinating Scroll die:

In keeping with my ever present shabby mood lately, I've incorporated a doily, lace, pearls, stitching, flower and silky bow to enhance the sweet stamp from Verve's new Stronger Love set. It was so hard for me to narrow down the sentiment as all of them are beautiful, heart warming and soulful. I tried something new on this card, to color in the flowers, I used Liquid Pearls. I would not recommend that for a larger image, but for those sweet little flowers, it came out wonderfully!

We've got a fun filled hop for you today! So let your fingers do the clicking and peek into the creative minds of Verve's talented Divas and Guest Divas as they give you a little tour of what's to come! Inspiration abounds, and so do the PRIZES!

We've picked a mystery blog from today's hop and hidden a prize! So be sure to give a little shout out in the comment section as you hop around to each blog on the list. We’ll draw a random winner from all of the comments on the mystery blog to win today's featured sets and dies. Check out the Verve Blog for all the prize details and deadlines.

Mojo Monday...You Lift Me Up

Happy Monday! I've got a Mojo Monday card to share with you today, along with some more sneaky peeks of new Verve to be released this Friday night! I'm next on the hop after Amy, welcome to my blog! I've been in quite a shabby mood lately, in fact, I went over to my mother's house Saturday night and she gave me this big shopping bag full of antique lace goodness...I can't wait to put that to good use, but in the meantime here's my card for today:

I started off by distressing the edges of the patterned paper and sewing them down to the base. The flower is from Verve's Brighter Days set and was made by stamping the outline, coloring in the center with Copics and then using Verve's new Scalloped Flower die. The leaves are from a previously released set, Dream Big, but Verve is releasing the Dreamy Leaves die at the end of the week that will coordinate with this set. I made the tag with Verve's Sweet Scallop Tag die using both kraft and white paper. To get the matting, I simply cut an 1/8th of an inch around the perimeter of the white, sponged the edges and outlined it with Platinum Liquid Pearls. I also added a bit of Jute flair at the top of the tag.

Today's card is part of Verve's Spotlight release hop, I hope you'll scoot around and see wonderful inspiration from the rest of the Divas today!
