Starry Birthday

I've done something that I don't do very often. Whenever I go to my stash to get a card for any XY member of my family....my supply is severely lacking. I usually make my cards very feminine with lots of flowers and ribbons, but this card is more to the manly side with some rich colors, stars and rhinestones. Yes well, there are still some "girly" elements, but I tried to tone them down a bit. :)
The design is based on Amber's new sketch for July in the Viva La Verve forum at Splitcoast:

The sentiment panel layers just multiplied out of control while I was working on this, it seemed that any way I layered things, it needed a dash of color in between. So it starts from the bottom as a Curvy Bookplate die, then a Jotted Heart die, two layers of Victoria lace, two strips of dp and then two layers of Charming Oval dies. I attached the glittered star with a dimensional and made the Zva rhinestone flourishes come out of both sides. The stamp is from one of my 'very well worn' Verve sets, Big Wish.

ETA: This card is being featured at Creative Sketches as inspiration for their patriotic theme. Check out the site here.

It's a brand new month of sketches! Here are the details and instructions for winning some brand new Verve for yourself:

Every Friday, a Diva will post a sketch for your enjoyment. Your cards, using the sketches, must be uploaded to Splitcoast Stamper's Viva La Verve forum by the last Thursday of the month. The winner will be announced on the next day and will win a $100 gift certificate to VERVE! How awesome is that?! Just a reminder, Verve stamps are NOT required but we love to see you use them. Feel free to flip, rotate, resize, or otherwise alter the sketch as long as we can tell you USED the sketch! This month's keyword with be VLVJul2012 for the whole month of July.

Spread Your CAS Wings

...that's what I'm trying to do anyway! I love the look of a simple, crisp design though my brain is having a hard time adjusting to the fact that it has to tell my fingers to do just that. My brain tends to scream "ADD MORE STUFF!" I envy those who come up with such simple designs...yet the design delivers such an impact! Here's a card I made based on a sketch challenge at Splitcoast:

The sentiment is from Verve's Hundred Hearts set (of which I love every stamp in this set) and I paired it with a darling Zva Creative winged pearl design. For those of you who may not know, the pearl design is one sticker. You simply gently pull it off of the backing and attach it to your project. So easy!

Just two different views of the same card....I ordered a light kit last week, but it was delivered with two smashed light bulbs so hopefully next week I'll have a brand-y new one. That way I won't have to wait for daylight hours to snap a pic.

And while you're here....Zva Creative has announced the winner of our current blog hop and she was chosen from my blog! Congratulations, Gerrie!

From Andrea Ewen's blog:
Very classy! So pretty for any occasion...smilin'
Gerrie will receive a Zva prize package worth $30.00! How fun!

Have a fabulous day~

The Ribbon Carousel Hops With Your Next Stamp

Welcome to the joint blog hop with the Ribbon Carousel and Your Next Stamp! Us gals at the Ribbon Carousel have quite a lot of behind the scenes chit chat going on at all times and in one of these sessions, someone (ahem) lovingly called another one of us (ahem) a smart {insert donkey here}. Well, that stuck and now we all call each other donkeys. When I received this stamp in the mail, it could not have been more perfect! Here is my sample using this adorable stamp:

This stamp set is called So Sorry Donkey and I colored the image in with some Prismacolor pencils and blended it with a Stampin' Up! blender pen. I added a strip of 2.5" Wired Natural Burlap, cut off the edges and pulled some of the strings out to make the ends uneven. I also added some matching Dresden Blue Vintage Seam binding that I received in June's Ribbon Club KitI tied off the button with some Natural Jute/Twine.  Check out the Ribbon Carousel to see all of their fabulous products!

Hop along and leave some blog love for our designers for a chance to win!

The Ribbon Carousel is giving away a ribbon carousel!

Your Next Stamp is giving away a $10 YNS online Gift Card to spend on stamps of choice!

Thanks for visiting and have a great day!

Mojo Monday...The Best Way To Your Future

Click *here* or scroll down one post for my Zva Creative DT Blog Hop card**

I had a chance to make my Mojo Monday card today, albeit a little later than usual...I had to drop my kids off at sailing lessons today and wouldn't you know it, there's been rain on and off all day! So their first lesson is going to be 'what we do at sailing lessons when we can't go sail'. I'm sure they're having fun anyway...
I didn't combine this card with any other challenges, I just wanted to keep it straight forward:

I made this flower by using a basting stitch and pulling it taut so the lace would wrap around in the shape of a flower. I added a big, chunky Zva pearl in the middle and attached that to an irregular cut of burlap which I received from the Ribbon Carousel.

Take care and have a great day!

Stamps: Anytime Messages (Hero Arts)
Paper: Mirabelle (Paper Studio), Bravo Burgundy, Vintage Cream
Ink: Cocoa (CTMH), Pumice Stone distress ink (Ranger)

Zva Creative June DT Blog Hop!

Zva Creative and our talented Design Team welcome you to our June blog hop!
The Blog Hop begins at Zva Creative's blog! Be sure head on over to check it out! Leave a comment there for a chance to win an extra prize package just for visiting the blog and telling us that you stopped by! You will also find a complete list of all the participating blogs there (in case there is a glitch along the way).
As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  We want to make sure that they shine bright for you, so each designer will be sharing a creation using a specific color or color combination on their blog hop project.  If you like what you see you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.
This month I happened to have been assigned one of my very favorite color families...white/cream. Just about every time I use my Zva, it's from this grouping of colors. I really think it 'ups' the elegance factor. Here's my project for June:

This is a tri-fold card, the front and middle panel are decorated with stamps and Zva pearls:

The netting under the flower is actually a dryer sheet that I cut on my Sizzix Big Kick with a Scalloped Circle Nestability. I adorned the edges with some Star Dust Stickles and scrunched up the middle before adding that trio of sweet Zva flowers.

This is the inside (middle) panel outlined with some pearl lines. I stamped a sentiment on this panel, too, but the next inside panel is blank:

Zva Creative products used:

CR-05CA-122 (Imposing - White Pearl)
PE-02CB-107 (Lines(Pearl)- white (0.3 cm & 0.5 cm)
PE-02CB-101 (Dots (Pearl)- White (0.3 cm, 0.5 cm & 0.8 cm)
FLBK-03CB-101 (mini rose (144 stems) -1/2" or 12mm - White)

If you would like to play along with our design team, just follow along the blog path.  I am linking to one of the Zva designers and that designer is linking to the next and so on. Be prepared to be inspired along the way!
Hidden on FIVE of the designer's blogs is a Zva Creative prize package! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over, so it's important to leave a comment on as many blogs as you can along the way.
The Blog Hop starts today, June 25th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, June 26th.

The 5 winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 27th on Zva Creative's blog. We will do our best to notify each winner, but it's best if you can pop in to Zva's blog on Wednesday.
All you need to do is leave a comment on this Blog Hop post... you do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. However, the more times you comment along the blog hop path, the more chances you will have to win.
We also thought it would be more fun to add even more chances to win our blog hop prize!
To increase your chances of winning:
* Comment to let us know that you posted on your Facebook page about our hop (link to any of the blog hop posts)
* Comment to let us know that you "tweeted" about our hop (link to any of the blog hop posts)
* Comment to let us know that you asked your local store to carry Zva creative products.  If they already do, that's fantastic, maybe you can suggest other products that they don't carry.
*Hop over to Zva's blog and leave a comment there to tell us that you made it there!

The blog hop begins here at Zva Creative's blog. Your next stop is Carole Maurin. Enjoy!

Thank you for joining us!

P.S. Mark your calendar to join us again on July 30th for our next Zva blog hop!

Viva La Verve...Enjoy Today

Happy Friday! I've got a very low accessorized card to show you today...although it looks busy there aren't many special embellishments. Most of the detail work was done with scissors. The design is based on this week's Viva La Verve sketch, which was so beautifully designed by Teresa. Here's my sample card:

I made that darling flower by stamping 2 different sizes of the Hope Blooms flowers and fussy cutting them out. I then took my scissors and cut towards the center on all the lines. I ruffled up some individual petals and stacked the two shapes on top of each other. I added a big Zva pearl to the middle and placed it atop a Bloom & Grow Elegant Leaves stamp/die cut.

Here's the skinny on the Viva La Verve challenge:

Every Friday, a Diva will post a sketch for your enjoyment. Your cards, using the sketches, must be uploaded to Splitcoast Stamper's Viva La Verve forum by the last Thursday of the month. Bringing Us Through

I'm popping in here before I have to leave for work this morning, but I wanted to post this card that I made last night (waaaay past my bedtime ;). The design is based on this week's sketch challenge at Splitcoast:
Actually, the card is real simple. I cut out the Cross die cut and sponged the perimeter using Antique Linen distress ink while it was still in the die. I stamped my Amazing Grace sentiment across the top and added pearls. I then mounted that on the Labels Ten, which in turn got mounted on the sketch design. I roughed up the edges a bit for a shabby look. A splash of Zva pearls lends it some elegance.

OK, late for work...see you tomorrow for this week's new Viva La Verve sketch!
Have a great day!

With Sympathy

It was a shock to me when I found out yesterday that one of my former Heartfelt Creations Design Team members had passed away last week from a brain aneurysm. Lisa Lynne Wright and I served together from November to April of this year and she was nothing but warm, kind and full of encouragement. My heart and prayers go out to her family in this difficult time, and although I was not able to make an original card for today's post, I did make a sympathy card during my SCS Dirty Dozen tenure that I had not been able to post until now:

The past day has made me think more clearly about mortality and how fleeting life really is. For that, we must live our lives to the fullest and love with our hearts unconditionally.
Have a blessed day~

Ribbon Carousel...Heavy Metal Challenge

I actually enjoy me a bit of heavy metal once in a while...both in the music scene and card making front. I'm sure that by my profile picture you can see what a 'head banger' I am, but a little old school Metallica does tend to get my heart pumping a bit (from my college days...). But this type of heavy metal challenge is being presented to us by our sweet Savannah O'Gwynn at the Ribbon Carousel challenge blog, so in honor of her idea, I added a bit of feminine hardware to my card:

I used some beautiful 3/4" Grosgrain ribbon available in this month's (June) ribbon club kit from the Ribbon Carousel. The kit is full of patriotic colors and if it were not for my club kit subscription, I would not own this thread so for my subscription I am thankful! I added a little metal ribbon buckle, some metallic-looking rhinestone and metal flowers. The border was made with a Scallop Trim punch available from Stampin' Up!. I had already attached the flowers out in space there and then happened to have glanced at my Zva stash...and spotted a cut up flourish that worked perfectly as a stem for the flowers.

Your creation can be anything from cards, quilts, sewn items, paper crafts, paintings! *** Be sure to have ribbon, bakers twine, jute twine, lace, thread (basically anything that comes on a spool). ***

We'd love for you to join us this week! Here are the details:
  • Make your NEW creation following the ribbon carousel challenge of the week. Any submissions made prior to the challenge date will be deleted. Be sure to include some type of ribbon, twine, hemp, lace....basically, anything that comes on a spool.
  • Load your creation up onto your blog or a public viewing forum like Splitcoast Stampers, (use the keyword RCC58) with a direct link back to THIS post. Including the challenge graphic isn't a requirement, but sure is appreciated! (A participant of our very first challenge didn't link back or mention our challenge and couldn't be named Top Spool, so don't let that happen to you!)
  • Link up your creation using the Inlinkz button at the bottom of this post. Your image may take a little while to pop up, but don't worry, it will appear shortly.
  • Come back the Friday after the challenge ends to see if YOU are a Top Spool!
Have a great day!

Mojo Monday...For You

Hello and happy Monday! I was able to squeeze in a Mojo Monday card paired with a Shabby Tea Room card, although my card is not so shabby...but more on the clean and elegant side. The Shabby Tea Room's challenge is an inspiration photo oozing with gorgeous pearls and rhinestones...ahhh, love!

Here's a close up of the flower embellishment:

Mojo's sketch:

The Shabby Tea Room's inspiration photo (yum!):

I used a silver doily in place of the left hand panel and added that pearly flower to the bow. I purchased that pearly flower in the wedding section at AC Moore. There are swirls of Zva Creative pearls radiating out from the bow and the ribbon is from Stampin' Up!. The stamp set is also from SU!, those flower stamps are just about 1/8th of the stamp (it's a big one) but I only wanted little snippets of the flowers to show.
I've got 4 kids (my niece and nephew are visiting) so I gotta run. Have a wonderfully crafty day!

Viva La Verve...For Real

Ok, today's Viva La Verve sketch is actually corresponding with Janelle's challenge currently posted. (Yesterday's was last week's...uh, what? Who's on first?!)  In all seriousness, I've decided to continue on my path of CAS...which doesn't happen too often. Here is my Viva La Verve sketch based on Janelle's drawing pictured below:

The butterfly was stamped in Memento ink with Verve's All Aflutter stamp and then cut out with the matching All Aflutter die. I colored the butterfly in with Copics and added some Star Dust Stickles for a little sparkle. I also attached a Zva Creative jet black pearl flourish after adding the sentiment panel stamped with Verve's Be Okay Plain Jane. Just a little Baker's twine adorns that panel as well. The outside edges were double scored with a scoring board.

Here's the skinny on the Viva La Verve challenge:

Viva La Verve...Birthday Wishes

Good morning! I had neglected to post my first week's Verve sketch from the Viva La Verve forum on Splitcoast, due to the fact that I really wasn't that happy with it at the time that I made it (about 2 weeks ago). I'm still not that  fond of  it, however, I do like the way the sentiment panel turned out, so I'm going to post it today. Amber usually heads up our first design in the month and this go-around is no exception, here is my sample based on her diagram pictured below:

My card uses the newly released Small Celebrations set from Verve. There is a lot more color on this card than I usually use, but I like to step outside the zone every once in a while (doesn't always feel so good, but it IS good for you!). I made that decorative sentiment panel with 3 Fancy Tags Three Nestabilities. I arranged them in a criss-cross pattern and glued them together. I then layered a two circle Nestabilites on top of that, added a rhinestone perimeter and various gems to the flourishes. The coordinating button was made with a kit from Stampin' Up! that allows you to cut out a piece of patterned paper and apply it to the top of the brad, then attach a clear overlay so it looks like a button. It's pretty neat, I've had the kit about 3 years and have never used it. Go figure.

Here's Amber's sketch:
