Take Flight

Hi and happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a nice weekend...I spent it with 3 out of the 4 veterans in my life...my dad, step-father and step-father-in-law. We had a relaxing day with my husband 'manning' the grill (and this is great because I don't particularly like to cook!). However, that's probably not why you've stopped by today...I do have a Mojo Monday card to show, with influences from the Shabby Tea Room, Splitcoast's Monday 'Try A New Technique' challenge with some Zva, Technique Tuesday and Ribbon Carousel thrown in! Phew!

Here's a close up of the Zva crystal flourish:

And some sweet Zva flowers along with some soft, feminine sheer ribbon and jute twine from the Ribbon Carousel:

I chose square (obviously):

The Shabby Tea Room asked us to use white/cream, pink, blue, flowers and fabric:

I received that sweet stamp set from Technique Tuesday and sometime in the near future Zva Creative's designers are going to be joining in a blog hop with TT's DT. Splitcoast's challenge was to use distressing on your card or project, whether in the form of physical roughing up or inked edges (or as a bonus...both!)
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the rest of this 'shortened' week!

Stamps: Take Flight (Technique Tuesday)
Paper: London Market dp (Pink Paislee), Early Espresso, Very Vanilla
Ink: Cocoa (CTMH), Pumice Stone, Vintage Photo distress inks (Ranger)
Accessories: Ivory Jute/Twine, 1.5" Pink Silk Ribbon, 1.5" Ivory Wired Net Ribbon,  (Ribbon Carousel),  CRB-05CA-119 (Fancy - Soft Blue Crystal), FLBK-03CB-123 (mini rose (144 stems) -7/8" or 23mm -Pink) Zva Creative, lace, Oval & Floral Oval Nestabilities (Spellbinders), sewing machine, paper distresser, dauber

Zva Creative May DT Blog Hop

Zva Creative and our talented Design Team welcome you to join us for our May Blog Hop! We are happy to have you join us and hope you enjoy all that we have to share with you along the way!

The Blog Hop begins at Zva Creative's blog! Be sure head on over to check it out! Leave a comment there for a chance to win an extra prize package just for visiting the blog and telling us that you stopped by! You will also find a complete list of all the participating blogs there (in case there is a glitch along the way).

As you know, Zva offers many beautiful color groupings for pearls, flowers and crystals.  We want to make sure that they shine bright for you, so each designer was asked to share a creation using a specific color or color combination on their blog hop project.  If you like what you see you can find a list of stores and online retailers that sell Zva HERE.
My colors for the month of May are purple/lavender/grape. I don't normally use these hues, but when I paired it with some beautiful Zva flowers, rhinestones and pearls, it made me think that I should use these shades more often!
I made the shape of my card into the Spellbinder's Fleur De Lis design. I cut out two of the largest die in white paper and tied them together with some Orchid Organdy ribbon. I cut out the next largest design, stamped my sentiment and added the silver cord, Zva paper flower and rhinestone flourishes. I outlined the perimeter with pearl strips and topped off each corner with a single, large pearl. These are the Zva Creative products I used:

PE-02CB-107 (Lines(Pearl)- white (0.3 cm & 0.5 cm)
PEB-03CB-109 (Fancy Butterfly Pearl/Crystal - Lavender)
FLBK-03CB-142 (sweet rose (72 stems) 1-3/8" or 35mm - Lavender
PEW-03CB-153 (Basic Lines Pearl - lavender (0.8 cm)

If you would like to play along with our design team, just follow along the blog path.  I am linking to one of the Zva designers and that designer is linking to the next and so on. Be prepared to be inspired along the way!
Hidden on FIVE of the designer's blogs is a Zva Creative prize package! Winners will be randomly chosen after the hop is over, so it's important to leave a comment on as many blogs as you can along the way.
The Blog Hop starts today, May 28th and runs through midnight US Eastern Standard Time on Tuesday, May 29th.
The 5 winners will be announced on Wednesday, May 30th on each of the five winning blogs. The full list will be found on Zva's blog as well. We will do our best to notify each winner, but it's best if you can pop in to all of the blogs once again on Wednesday... plus, you never know what kind of inspirational creation that you may find there.

All you need to do is leave a comment on this blog post... you do not need to leave a comment on each and every designer's blog post to qualify. However, the more times you comment along the blog hop path, the more chances you will have to win.

We also thought it would be more fun to add even more chances to win our blog hop prize!  To increase your chances of winning:
* Comment to let us know that you posted on your Facebook page about our hop (link to any of the blog hop posts)
* Comment to let us know that you "tweeted" about our hop (link to any of the blog hop posts)
* Comment to let us know that you asked your local store to carry Zva creative products.  If they already do, that's fantastic, maybe you can suggest other products that they don't carry.
*Hop over to Zva's blog and leave a comment there to tell us that you made it there!

The blog hop begins here at Zva Creative's blog. Your next stop is Tara Orr. Enjoy!

Thank you for joining us!

P.S. Mark your calendar to join us again on June 25th for our next Zva blog hop!

Love You...Super Dad

Veering slightly off the path of ultra-feminine cards, I decided to take a leap at both CAS and masculine. For me, each is a daunting task in and of itself. Put them together? Nearly impossible...nearly. But I do have an attempt at it using this month's Viva La Verve sketch, designed by....me! Here's my super dad card, CAS and masculine at the same time:

My card uses the recently released Super Dad set, paired with an older set, You and I. To make the "U" die cut, I used Verve's A Cut Above dies, specifically the I Heart U set.

Here are the details for playing along with our sketch challenge:

Every Friday, a Diva will post a sketch for your enjoyment. Your cards, using the sketches, must be uploaded to Splitcoast Stamper's Viva La Verve forum by the last Thursday of the month. The winner will be announced on the next day and will win a $100 gift certificate to VERVE! How awesome is that?! Just a reminder, Verve stamps are NOT required but we love to see you use them. Feel free to flip, rotate, resize, or otherwise alter the sketch as long as we can tell you USED the sketch! This month's keyword with be VLVMay2012 for the whole month of May.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great weekend!

Ribbon Carousel Meets The Greeting Farm

Officially there is a hop today, between the design teams from the Ribbon Carousel and The Greeting Farm. Unofficially I am participating because 1) I didn't know if I'd be able to get a card done on time and 2) I didn't know if I would be willing to post a card in which I've colored an image.  (ETA: I'm officially on the roster now.) The Ribbon Carousel and the Greeting Farm swapped goodies and here is my card based on goodies from both places:

My card uses some yummy goodies from the Ribbon Carousel, namely Alp Green Vintage Seam Binding, tied into a double bow. I also tied on a button with some Natural Twine/Jute and underneath the image panel is a strip of 2.5" Natural Wired Burlap. The image is called Cheeky Mate, available from the Greeting Farm stamp store. I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch as the basis for my design.

Now, lets talk about the prizes!

One lucky blog hopper will win a ribbon carousel and one will win a choice of two 4x6 stamp set in either the clear or rubber line from The Greeting Farm!

There are TWO MORE prizes up for grabs! We will be giving away a $10 gift certificate on our Facebook page and The Greeting Farm will be giving away a 4x6stamp set on their Facebook page (winner's choice!)

Here's what you need to do to qualify for the Facebook prizes:

1. Head on over to our Facebook page, look for the post about this blog hop and say hello there! Be sure to "like" us if you haven't already!
2.Head on over to The Greeting Farm's Facebook page and say hello there, too! Be sure to "like" them, too!
3. Come back to our Facebook page and tell us you've done it!
4. Share the post on our Facebook page about this blog hop with a friend for an extra
chance to win!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Let's Make Some Ribbon Flowers!

I'm glad that you stopped by today! It is my turn to host a challenge at the Ribbon Carousel and I've chosen the theme of May Flowers. My challenge consists of making some type of flower out of ribbon, jute, burlap, felt or any other textile you may have readily available. Or you can just add a pretty flower of any type to your project, but I've come across so many different types of flower tutorials on the Internet, mainly from Pinterest, if you wanted to try your hand at it. Here's an example of a ribbon-type flower:

This is called a five-point flower and to make this I cut (5) 2" strips of seam binding. I then folded each strip on a 90° right angle. Next, I folded the strip in half again, mirror image. With a needle and thread I sent a basting stitch through all five of the folded strips, pulled the thread taut and then sewed the last flower petal to the beginning flower petal. I added a pearl to the center to cover the hole in the middle. I remember doing this from a tutorial, but it's no longer available. Never mind, here's the original one I was mentioning.  I'll see if I can find another one, with pictures. Here's one that's slightly different, but gives the same end result. It's really quite simple after a bit of practice.

I added that darling Pink Salmon Vintage Seam binding flower to a bow made from 7/8" Ivory Crochet Ribbon, but not before I added a double bow of Natural Jute/Twine. These are all available in the Ribbon Carousel store. The sentiment panel is a 'new to me' Spellbinders Floral Oval and to dress up the corners I added some Cuttlebug Vintage Corner dies. The papers were still on my desk from yesterday's Mojo card and since I adore them, I thought I would use them again today on this card. The stamp is from Technique Tuesday's Take Flight set and was sent to me by Windy, our DT coordinator from Zva Creative. I paired the stamp with some beautiful Zva pearls and rhinestones.

Are you up to the challenge?!

Hello Sunshine

Good morning! I have to say that I haven't felt much like card making lately...(I don't FEEL feverish!?) and have temporarily curbed my obsession, uh, hobby for the past few days in favor of some good book reading. I just finished The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series and wowzers were they suspenseful! I couldn't put them down! But now that I've finished, and it's Monday...I've got a card that I made this morning using Mojo Monday's sketch and the Shabby Tea Room's inspiration photo:

Here's a close up of the floral embellishment. It includes two Quinn Floruishes, a crystal stamen, some Ribbon Carousel Ivory twine, Zva Creative rhinestone flourishes and paper/silk flowers:

My ever constant/curious companion, Mittens:

Mojo Monday's sketch:

The Shabby Tea Room's inspiration photo and one other requirement is to use a dimensional flower (I succeed with that challenge every week :)  :

It's a gloomy day today here in New Jersey. Maybe a good day to curl up and read a good book! I just started The Help last night. Anybody else read it...and like it?
Have a great rest of your day!

Viva La Verve...Happily Ever After

Happy Friday! A new Friday means a new sketch for us to behold from the Viva La Verve gallery! My sweet Diva sister Maureen is hosting this week and she has a darling design for us. I was busy assisting (read enabling) my son to make his Science fair project, so I was not able to get this done much ahead of time. In fact, I made this at 11pm last night and you might say that I'm a bit tired! However, using this sketch, my ideas flowed pretty smoothly...(thanks, Moe!) I'm rambling now...here's my card:

Here are the details for the Viva La Verve challenge:

Every Friday, a Diva will post a sketch for your enjoyment. Your cards, using the sketches, must be uploaded to Splitcoast Stamper's Viva La Verve forum by the last Thursday of the month. The Ribbon Carousel Gets Sketchy

This week at the Ribbon Carousel we're having a sketch challenge! Debbie Carriere (Splitcoast's newest Dirty Girl) is our hostess this week and here is a card that I made based on her sketch I've pictured below:

I did a little changing up of the sketch, namely making the square into a circle. The ribbon is Eggshell Vintage Seam binding from the Ribbon Carousel. I tied it into a double bow and added some various flowers from my stash. The sentiment panel consists of a Quinn flourish die with a Large Scalloped Circle raised up with a dimensional atop it. The sentiment is stamped in Cocoa ink, and while the paper was still in the die, I sponged the edges with Antique Linen distress ink and then traced the inside with a Sand Spica pen.

We would love for you to play along with us!   Up for grabs is a $5 gift certificate to the Ribbon Carousel Store

Your creation can be anything from cards, quilts, sewn items, paper crafts, paintings! *** Be sure to have ribbon, bakers twine, jute twine, lace, thread (basically anything that comes on a spool). ***

When The Creative Well Is Dry...

I did attempt a Mojo Monday card yesterday, I also attempted a Shabby Tea Room, a Splitcoast Stampers challenge card and finally a card for today's Ribbon Carousel challenge. Cards attempted = 4. Cards made = 1. Cards liked = 0. I kept leaving my craft room, going to fold laundry, read, make dinner, exercise and then would come back to the craft room and alas...the creative well was empty. A good night's sleep later, I've got a Mojo card to display:

This is a Renaissance Heart die cut, scored and folded to give it some dimension. In order to do this, you must cut out the middle with a circular shape die. Otherwise it won't fold.

I found these at the bottom of a ribbon stash. I wanted to put flowers on here like the sketch suggested, but these worked much better:

My card from yesterday:

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day! I was treated to breakfast in bed this morning...Frosted Mini-Wheats, strawberries and a darling little rose cut from our rose bush out back...all served on a Wii weigh scale (apparently I don't own any trays. :) Now that my appetite has been satisfied, I've gone ahead and satisfied my crafty appetite with a card made for this week's Featured Stamper challenge over at Splitcoast. I chose this card here by Tracy MacDonald (aka TracyMac):

I used a beautifully scripted stamp I received from Della at  I Brake For Stamps called Nature. It fit perfectly with the elegance of the silk and the nature theme of the background paper. If you're interested in stamps from Della's store, enter Save10Andrea and you'll get 10% off of your purchase. The bow is 1.5" Champagne Silk Ribbon from the Ribbon Carousel. I folded a length in half and draped it over the Doily Lace panel, then made the bow and attached it to the ribbon. (That's the way you get it to stay straight.) I added a sweet vintage rose, which was inspired by Tracy's card, Vintage Roses. I kept the color scheme the same and included the rose and pearls. I changed up the theme from hers and I omitted the image.
Before I go, the Ribbon Carousel is having a sale through Monday, May 14th in honor of Mother's Day! Why not treat yourself to something YOU really want, yes?

Have a wonderful day and thanks for visiting!

Viva La Verve...Thinking Of You

And the weekend's almost upon us! Friday means a new sketch at Viva La Verve and we've got the lovely Amy providing some divine inspiration for us this week! I quickly whipped up this card last night as my daughter and I watch our favorite TV shows on Thursday night and that doesn't leave me much time in between her bedtime and mine to create. I pulled out some pretty/shabby Prima Almanac papers and distressed them up a bit to produce this:

Lots of Verve-y goodness going on, I used a newly released stamp from the Joyful Blooms set paired with a previously released Charming Oval die (matted, of course!). I also used the Bloom and Grow set for the leaf flourish and die cut the shape out with Verve's Elegant Leaves die. I added a pretty fabric flower, some Zva rhinestone flourishes and a bit of Ivory Jute.

Here are the details for playing along with our sketch challenge:

Every Friday, a Diva will post a sketch for your enjoyment. Your cards, using the sketches, must be uploaded to Splitcoast Stamper's Viva La Verve forum by the last Thursday of the month. We'll Be Friends Forever

Hi all and happy Thursday! I sat down at my craft table a couple of days ago with the intention of making my Sketch For You To Try sample and got side-tracked but today I've finally got it ready to post. Two weeks ago, Della from I Brake For Stamps sent me the most lovely stamps and I knew that I wanted to use one on this card here....so I did:

Here's the sketch I used:

The stamp is called "Friends Forever" and I just love the mix of fonts it contains. If you like this stamp and want to shop at I Brake For Stamps , you'll get a 10% discount by using this coupon code: SAVE10ANDREA. To make the sentiment panel, I die cut a Fleur De Lis Rectangle and made it into a square by cutting though the middle and reattaching the pieces. I then cut out another Fleur De Lis design and did thisI added some 5/8" Antique Gold Satin Scalloped Edge Ribbon which I ruffled up with a needle and gold thread. I then added a row of Zva pearl lines to cover up the stitch. I also added some taupe Zva individual pearls to the Fleur De Lis design.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Ribbon Carousel Hops with There She Goes

The Ribbon Carousel DT and I are thrilled to be teaming up today for a blog hop with the designers from There She Goes Clear Stamps!  If you haven't checked out their stamps, go ahead and do it!  I was fortunate enough to receive this very versatile set called Everyday Greetings from Jessica, owner of TSG. I'm able to mix and match a variety of the sentiments, like on this one:

To make this card, I started out with some rich looking Reflections paper from Prima. I just received the Ribbon Carousel's May Ribbon Kit and this gorgeous 1.5" Antique Gold Silky Crushed ribbon was included...and it just so happens that it matches the Prima paper beautifully! As I posted yesterday, the Club Kit is such a great idea because you get ribbon that you may have not otherwise chosen but in my case....I'm sure glad I received it! I made a chunky bow out of the silk ribbon, added a flower and some homemade stick pins. The sentiment panel is a Lattice Rectangle with a Labels Eighteen die cut on top of that, stamped and sponged.

Now, who is up for some prizes?
Hop along today and one lucky blog hopper will win a Ribbon Carousel and one lucky blog hopper will win a $50 gift certificate from There She Goes Clear Stamps!

But that's not all!

We will give away a $10 gift certificate to the Ribbon Carousel Store on our Facebook page and There She Goes will give away a $10 gift certificate to There She Goes Clear Stamps on their Facebook page!   Here's what you need to do:

1. Head on over to our Facebook page and say hello!
2. Head on over to the There She Goes Facebook page and say hello there, too!
3. Come back to our Facebook page and tell us you've done it!
4. Share the post on our Facebook page about this blog hop with a friend for an extra
    chance to win!
