Dare To Get Dirty...You've Been On My Mind

One of the perks for being a Dirty Dozen alumni is that I get to participate in the yearly Dare To Get Dirty challenges going on at Splitcoast! The Alumni get together, plan/hostess some challenges and participants choose one or some or all of them to complete! Challenges can be combined and anyone that completes all the challenges is in the running for some fabulous prizes! Today I'm helping by making a sample for fellow Dirty girl Carole Burrage, aka TruCarMa, but you need to check out the Dare to Get Dirty thread to see what the actual challenge is! Here is my sample for Carole:

Stamps: Small Phrases (Verve Stamps)
Paper: The Best of K & Company, Vintage Cream (PTI), Early Espresso (SU!)
Ink: Walnut Stain distress ink (Ranger)
Accessories: Pinking Hearts border punch, Gem flourish (Prima), doily medallion (Tim Holtz Alterations die), Sparkler (Webster's Pages), needle & thread, dauber
Size: 4 1/4" X 5 1/2"

Again, I made two samples...I had made this bottom one first, but then decided that it didn't have enough detail on it...so I over compensated with the first card :)

Here's another view:

Remember to check out this thread here and if you want to participate in Carole's challenge, you must use the keyword DTGD11TruCarMa.

Have a great day and good luck!

Play Date Cafe...Perkin's Prize

Good Thursday morning to you! It's time for another beautiful color story delivered by the Play Date Cafe! This week's colors are among my favorites (basically anything with pink or green would be a fave) and pink is on the menu! Here's a peeky at what Jax has cooked up for us this week:

Very glamorous and very conducive to my obsession of late, vintage shabby! Here is what I've come up with using these fabulous colors:

Haha...funny story...my MIL, daughter and I had breakfast in a Perkin's last week and I had THE most delicious apple cinnamon muffin I think I have ever had. After my muffin reverie ended {rather quickly}, I looked down at the {empty} plate and saw the most gorgeous doily! Of course by this point it had a grease stain on it, so I was compelled to ask the waitress if she had another to spare. That sweet lady gave me 4! Turns out they are a tad to big for a standard size card, but look rather nice cut in half! Thank you Perkins! (And nice waitress lady!)

The Play Date Cafe has a new sponsor, The Scrapbooking Studio!

CASE Study...Thanks For Everything

A big, warm "Thanks for Everything" to our July Muse, Dawn Woleslagel! It was so much fun CASEing her beautiful work, I always love the chance to {try} a CAS design...although I have this terrible craving to add more stuff to a card, instead of leave it alone...in it's purest CAS form. I was able to restrain myself with this card, although I don't think that craving ever really goes away. Here's Dawn's elegant card that we're CASEing this week:

In honor of Dawn being our subject for the month, I used WPlus9 stamps on my card, the sentiment is from the Mehndi Medallions collection:

The flowers are from Verve's Bloom & Grow set and I added pearls to the centers of the flowers. I did CASE Dawn's lovely design, however, since I am not a coloring guru, I substituted silhouette floral images instead. I actually did pull out my Copics and then promptly put them away after the first attempt at coloring did not go nearly as well as my mind had planned it.

Oh my goodness...make sure to visit the CASE Study website next week as well for some AWESOME  happenings going on in honor of our first anniversary! Chupa has some amazing challenges planned for the WHOLE month of AUGUST! You won't want to miss the fun....AND PRIZES!!

Here's where you can see how the CASE Study design team fashioned some fabulousity from Dawn's elegant inspiration:

I apologize for the pics in advance, I realize now that a lace tablecloth takes away from my card, but didn't quite get that back then.

I cut sections out of the doily and reattached them to give it some dimension:

Mojo Monday Meets The Shabby Tea Room

Ahh, nothing new by my title, I've actually been combining Mojo Monday sketch challenge with the Shabby Tea Room for months now, I just feel like I've exhausted my witty titles (temporarily). This will be a short one as I have a friend waiting for me, and telling her I'll be another 15 minutes twice, doesn't really fly anymore. So here's my combined challenge for this week (starting off with some of the detail shots):

A Waltzingmouse Second Chance

Good Saturday afternoon! I trust that most of you that are reading this are immersed in a hot, hot summery day! Only about 103° here in New Jersey...even with the Atlantic Ocean about a mile away, we have no relief from the heat. My poor, sweet husband is working outside today, for our good friends that have a pool, I'm hoping he'll jump in an cool himself off a bit. I was able to keep myself climate controlled in my craft room today and make a card for the Waltzingmouse sketch challenge...a card that I am dedicating to my step-father...I hope he likes butterflies, LOL!:

My so-called failed attempt at coloring seam binding...found a use for it!

Here's the sketch I used:
My step father had open heart surgery about 2 weeks ago, and even though he has made a remarkable recovery (getting out of bed and walking after 2 days), this mountain of healing is really taking a toll on him. Allergies don't help as he's coughing a lot and it hurts A LOT to cough when your chest was cracked open just a short time ago. I'm hoping and praying that he feels better soon, it's so hard to watch someone you love be in pain. On the bright side, every day is a little bit better and at least he's moving in a positive direction. So in the grand scheme of things, I don't think he'll mind the butterflies...so much.
Have a wonderfully crafty, cool day!

Viva La Verve...Serenity Calls

Good Friday morning! It's time for a new sketch at the Viva La Verve forum over at Splitcoast and we've got a FAB sketch designed by Diva Laurie! This is one design that I know I'll be using again for it has so many possibilities! I decided to use my Serenity stamp set and did a little masking to make my sentiment and ribbon play together nicely:

I took this picture outside because I got home late from work and the window sill was just not getting enough light. The green in the background definitely makes a super contrast, but I think loses some of the softness.

Here's Laurie's divine sketch:

The Labels One shape is lightly sponged around the edges with Antique Linen distress ink and hand sewed. (I don't think I could use my machine for that type of design and have it look even.) I masked the sentiment stamp and moved half of the saying down a bit so that I could fit my ribbon across without blocking out words. The stick pins were made using regular pearl corsage pins and adding some Jolee's gems (used for jewelry making) to each pin. A dab of glue keeps them in place.
Hope you get a chance to play along with us...I would love to see what you create using this super sketch! Link up your creation to the VLV gallery using the keyword VLVJul2011. Participants who complete all the sketches for the month are in the running to receive the entire next release for free!
Have a great day and happy crafting!

Play Date Cafe...Crazy For You

Welcome to this week's challenge at the Play Date Cafe...which happens to be one of my favorite types of color stories...a color splash! Black and white cards with just a touch of color are very appealing to me, and I simply love the combination of black/white/red. Take a look at the graphic for this week's challenge, designed by our own Jax Miller:

Here's my card:

In addition to the color splash, the design team has also incorporated twine into their projects, generously donated by the Twinery. I chose to accent the red scalloped panel at the bottom with just a little bow of red twine on the button. The sentiment stamps are part of Verve's new release and these came from the set called Small Phrases. The floral stamp is from Stampin' Up! I've just placed a huge order for some new SU! products, I cannot wait for those goodies to come in!

On another note, I'm sad to say that this week will be Fiona Schultz's last week with us at the Play Date Cafe. I'll certainly miss her awesome crocheted projects and altered art creations....Good luck Fee, in all your future endeavors!

CASE Study...Wishing You Comfort

Welcome to this week's installment of CASE Study! We have another clean and elegant card designed by our July Muse, Dawn Woleslagel. Let's take a look at the beauty we're CASEing this week:

My eyes went straight away to the background design, so I knew that I wanted to make that stand out on my card, however, my background is a little more subtle in color. I also wanted to showcase my sentiment in the middle of the card as well. I CASEd all these details, while changing the sentiment, colors and stamps. Here is my card based on Dawn's lovely card:

I used a really old method of "coloring" in my flowers, I stamped them first in Versamark and then haphazardly stamped them onto the base panel. I then used a dauber and Stampin' Up! pastel chalks and lightly rubbed the chalk onto the image in a circular motion using a dauber (a sponge can be used instead). It's soooo easy and gives such a wonderful soft effect. I then stamped my sentiment in the center and added pearls to the middle of each flower.

At CASE Study we've got a 2 fabulous new members to our Design Team, please welcome Debby Hughes and Clare Buswell! I'm so excited to be working with these talented ladies!
