Who Says it's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year?

I just had to say that with all of the wintry weather we've been experiencing here on the East coast. Mercifully this last storm was just rain for us but other parts close to use got "feet" of snow! Living approximately 1 mile from the Atlantic Ocean, we are pretty shielded from snow, I think the ocean temps keep the shore relatively warmer than inland, but the past 2 years we have not been able to escape the clutches of the driven snow! In keeping with the spirit of winter I've made yet another snowflake card using a 'new to me' MS French Scroll punch. This time I layered two panels in a staggered fashion to get a new look. I'm entering this card over at The Shabby Tea Room where the challenge is to "get back to basics". Here's my "basic" card:

Here's close up of the ribbon embellishment:

I embossed the background paper which is from Close to My Heart and has a white core. After embossing I took a piece of sand paper and lightly sanded the raised portions:

And lastly a close-up photo of the punching that formed the snowflake (and my mismatched pearl colors):

The challenge is no patterned paper or anything fancy. Just cardstock and the basic embellishments. So what it comes down to is, what can you do with those basic elements to dress them up? My answer was the corner punch medallions that I like to make. To create this card I cut out the largest circle Nestability and then the next size down. I punched each one with the Martha Stewart French Scroll corner punch. I used a similar method here which gives you the instructions on how to do that.  I layered the smaller medallion over the larger one and raised it up with some pop dots. I added pearls around the sentiment and also over some goof ups that I had around the perimeter.
Have a great night and I'll be back in the morning with a brandy new Viva La Verve challenge card!

  3. Was wondering if you got hit. We are close to the ocean as well so a lot passes over us when/if we ever get any snow on our side of the continent.

Your card is gorgeous as always. Love the double medallion from that punch and your bow embellishment is lovely.

  6. Gorgeous! Love the colors! It is hard to do with no pattern paper, but this is perfect! I have actually made the medallions out of the french scroll punch and like it as much as the layered arches, they make the card look so elegant, esp the doubled look! As always an excellent card!
